England Premier League

Stadium: Old Trafford (Manchester)
Newcastle United

Yohan Cabaye's goal at Old Trafford last December secured Newcastle's first victory at Manchester United since 1972 and, for a time, raised hopes of European qualification for Alan Pardew's team. At the same time, the home team's defeat confirmed fears that David Moyes was not up to the job as manager and the subsequent spiral into disarray led to the club's worst season in a quarter of a century. Twelve months on, both Uniteds remain on the brink of something, but nobody quite knows what it is for either of them.

United have won seven and drawn one of their eight matches on home soil since losing 2-1 to Swansea City on the Barclays Premier League's opening day. Six victories in a row helped Van Gaal's side climb into the top four, although their momentum was checked by a 1-1 draw at Aston Villa in their last match.

Newcastle were one of seven away teams to win a Barclays Premier League match at Old Trafford last season and Van Gaal is keen to continue banishing the memories of those home failings.
