Turkey vs Austria: Injury-Hit Austria In Danger Ahead Of Turkey Match

Austria are not favourites ahead of Tuesday’s Euro 2012 qualifying match against Turkey. The Austrians have injuries to worry about.
Austria have to push hard if they want to put their Euro 2012 qualifying hopes back on track.
Austria have to push hard if they want to put their Euro 2012 qualifying hopes back on track.

The battle in Group A’s middle section is tight with Austria sandwiched between second-placed Belgium who have 7 points and fourth-placed Turkey who have 6 points. Last weekend, the Euro 2008 co-hosts lost 3 crucial points in a home defeat to Belgium.

They now need to bounce back against Turkey, but their mission to do so has become even more difficult. Midfielder Zlatko Junuzovic, defender Franz Schiemer and striker Marc Janko have all been sidelined only to add put Austria’s Euro 2012 qualifying hopes in further doubts.

Austria’s best player of the year Junuzovic has an ankle injury to treat and will subsequently have to watch his team take on Turkey on a TV screen. On Monday, the midfielder told UEFA.com:

“It would be impossible for me to train or to help the team on Tuesday. But I wish my team-mates all the best. I hope they can return from Istanbul unbeaten.”

With Belgium expected to defeat Azerbaijan in Group A’s other Euro 2012 qualifying match, it appears imperative for Austria to upset Turkey on Tuesday. Interestingly, Turkey are yet to lose on home soil whereas the Austrians haven’t tasted victory out of the country.

Adding to Austria’s fears is the Tyro Cenk factor. The 19-year-old striker is ready to turn into a legendary striker for the Turkish national team. The Gaziantepspor play in-form forward will be looking to mark his international debut in a great manner at the expectations of his fans.

Sweden vs Moldova Match Background

Sweden will look to keep pace with Group E leaders the Netherlands and Hungary as they play host to Moldova in their first UEFA EURO 2012 qualifier of the year.

Match background
• The nations have met twice before, in 2002 FIFA World Cup qualifying, with Sweden winning both fixtures without conceding.

• Marcus Allbäck scored two late goals as Sweden won their first meeting 2-0 in Chisinau on 28 March 2001 – nine years and a day before this latest encounter.

• The return fixture in Gothenburg on 6 June 2001 ended in a 6-0 win for the hosts; Henrik Larsson hit a hat-trick, Niclas Alexandersson and Allbäck struck to make it 5-0 and then Larsson added his fourth of the game.

• It was the only occasion in his career that Larsson scored four goals in an international game for club or country.

• Sweden and Moldova are level on six points, but Sweden have a game in hand.

Israel next for resurgent Georgia

Georgia failed to break down UEFA EURO 2012 Group F rivals Israel when the sides met in their first competitive fixture last September, but will try again when they reconvene in Tel Aviv.

Temuri Ketsbaia's Georgia failed to break down Israel when the sides met for the first time in a competitive fixture on 7 September, but the boot may be on the other foot when they reconvene in Tel Aviv in UEFA EURO 2012 Group F.

Match background
• Gogita Gogua hit the bar and Dudu Aouate made a number of fine saves as Israel survived a tough night in Tbilisi in the teams' first Group F encounter.

• Israel have faced Georgia five times in total, with their record reading W2 D2 L1 (W1 D1 L0 at home).

• The first fixture between the teams took place in Ashdod on 23 February 1994, when Israel claimed a 2-0 win. The sides then drew 1-1 in Tel Aviv on 29 March 2000.

• Their next two friendly meetings were staged in Tbilisi, starting with a 3-2 victory for Georgia on 24 April 2001. The hosts lost the next outing as Israel collected a 1-0 success on 27 May 2004.

Czechs bait hooks for minnows Liechtenstein

The Czech Republic will look to get three more points on the board as they play host to Liechtenstein in Group I, having already beaten them 2-0 in UEFA EURO 2012 qualifying.

Match background
• Goals from Tomáš Necid and Václav Kadlec settled that first encounter, and the first between the sides, on 12 October. There was some encouragement for the home side at the Rheinpark in Vaduz, with Philippe Erne heading against the post.

• Liechtenstein's top club, FC Vaduz, have twice been paired with opponents from the Czech Republic in two-legged UEFA club competition games; Vaduz lost both ties and all four individual games by an aggregate scoreline of 17-1.

• Liechtenstein have gone 14 games without a competitive win since a 3-0 UEFA EURO 2008 qualifying victory against Iceland on 17 October 2007. Two of those matches ended in draws.

• Liechtenstein have also been waiting 15 games for a competitive away win, since a 4-0 success against Luxembourg in FIFA World Cup qualifying on 13 October 2004.

Scotland Vs Brazil: I'll Be Happy To Upset Dalglish - Lucas

Brazil midfielder Lucas Leiva has admitted that he could be forced to cause an upset for his Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish if Brazil beat Scotland this Sunday
Lucas has been in great form since Kenny Dalglish took over at Liverpool
Lucas has been in great form since Kenny Dalglish took over at Liverpool

Lucas stated that this weekend's match against Scotland is very important for Brazil as they seek to return to winning ways after losing the previous international fixtures against France and Argentina. But Lucas was forced to admit that it could be an upset for Kenny Dalglish, who is a Scot himself.

"It will be a very important game for us,'' said Lucas ahead of Sunday's clash at the Emirates.

"We lost the last games so the pressure is a bit higher. But we have a good team and hopefully we will play a very good match. Hopefully we will play with confidence and I am sure we will have a big opportunity to win and be confident for the rest of the games.''

Speaking on Dalglish's reaction should Brazil beat Scotland, he added with a smile: "I don't think he will be happy. I think he is looking forward to the match as well and we were talking a little bit about the game.

"It is an important game for Scotland because they have a lot of respect for Brazil, but we know how difficult it will be because they have good players and play with more confidence. Hopefully we will have a very good match and win. That is the most important thing at the moment.''

Lucas has been a revelation for Liverpool since Kenny Dalglish took over in January, being instrumental in Liverpool's push for revitalization. His form has even convinced Mano Menezes to include him in the national team after previously living in the shadows of other players.

"Kenny has been very good, not just for me but all the players and the fans,'' he said.

"You know he is really important for the club so everything he does is just thinking in the club and the future of the club. He is doing really well and I think all the team, all the players, are enjoying their time with him.''

Can Portugal continue their resurgence under new coach Paulo Bento against an attack-minded Chile?
Paulo Bento has overseen an upturn in Portugal’s fortunes since taking over from Carlos Queiroz
Paulo Bento has overseen an upturn in Portugal’s fortunes since taking over from Carlos Queiroz

Paulo Bento will be looking to consolidate his encouraging start to life as Portugal coach as he prepares his team for two friendlies against Chile and Finland in the next four days.

Unmistakable signs have emerged during Bento’s tenure that he is rebuilding the Seleccao into a world force again, able to stand up to comparison next to the exciting teams that lent prestige to the country as a footballing nation throughout the first decade of the new millennium.

The former Sporting manager stepped into the breach after Carlos Queiroz’s acrimonious departure from the top job in Portugal. Just days after taking over he began to repair a Euro 2012 qualifying campaign that had started disastrously. Convincing wins over Denmark and Finland put Portugal back into the running for a place in Poland and the Ukraine, but Bento is keen not to take his eye off the ball.

“Our focus must be on the game on 4 June against Norway and these two preparation games against Chile and Finland. I’m fully concentrated on making sure the players are calm and relaxed so that they are in good shape on 4 June. Nothing else matters. We all have to look towards Euro 2012,” said Bento today at the national team’s training headquarters in Obidos.

Portugal will have to do without star player and captain Cristiano Ronaldo. This will open up a golden opportunity for another of Portugal’s wingers to stake a claim for third spot in the pecking order out wide, behind the Real Madrid man and Nani. Ricardo Quaresma, once thought to be a better prospect than Ronaldo when the two where together at Sporting early in their careers (team-mates of Bento’s at the time) appears to have rediscovered his Midas touch at Besiktas in Turkey, but Silvestre Varela, in superb form for FC Porto all season, will provide strong opposition as Portugal continue to be blessed with an embarrassment of riches as regards wingers.

Elsewhere, other positions that may have claimed rightful owners by Tuesday night are the third midfielder in Bento’s 4-3-3 and the central striker. Joao Moutinho and Raul Meireles have enjoyed wonderful seasons at Porto and Liverpool respectively and are permanent fixtures in the side. Carlos Martins (Benfica), Paulo Machado (Toulouse) and Ruben Micael (FC Porto) are battling it out to convince Bento they are the missing link in the midfield trio.

In stark contrast to the aforementioned plethora of quality wide players at the coach’s disposal, Portugal’s traditional dearth of high-class strikers is still very much in evidence. Either Helder Postiga or Hugo Almeida will get the nod, owing more to lack of credible alternatives rather than any great goal-scoring feats in recent times.

Chile provided excellent entertainment and no little skill in the World Cup in South Africa. The South American country has since changed coach, with the highly rated Marcelo Bielsa replaced by another Argentine, Claudio Borghi. Blessed with a talented squad including one of the most sought after up-and-coming talents in world football, Alexis Sanchez, the South Americans should provide a good test of Portugal’s progress on Saturday night.

USA vs Argentina Match Preview

Sergio Batista looks forward to celebrate his sixth victory with the Albiceleste at the New Meadowlands Stadium.
"Some players are just on the kind of level where you have huge admiration for them above anything else. Messi is one of those" said USA's coach Bob Bradley.
"Some players are just on the kind of level where you have huge admiration for them above anything else. Messi is one of those" said USA's coach Bob Bradley.
Argentina prepares for two important friendly matches prior to hosting the Copa America next July. Batista's Albiceleste visits New Jersey this Saturday to take on USA before visiting San Jose in Costa Rica next week.

Martin Demichelis, Gabriel Heinze, Carlos Tevez and Sergio Aguero are among the most startling absentees in the Gaucho squad.

"They're important players, I know. Carlos (Tevez) is going through an excellent moment in Manchester.. But I want to give an opportunity to different players" said Argentina's coach.

Valencia's Ever Banega will be joining Esteban Cambiasso and Javier Mascherano in the midfield. Batista will be playing his seventh game as Argentina's coach, falling only against Japan back in October, and defeating major rivals like Brazil, Spain and Portugal.

Bradley misses Steve Cherundolo, Stuart Holden and Zak Whitebrea due to injuries. Argentina is a dangerous team on the attack, capable of overwhelming any defense either from the center of the field or the wings.

Maurice Edu and Michael Bradley are likely to join the starting eleven to isolate Argentina's strikers, but it's also possible Bradley relegates the presence of his son to boost the attack with Benny Feilhaber.

Young Palermo's midfielder Javier Pastore could give a whole new perspective to Argentina's attack, with Ezequiel Lavezzi and Angel Di Maria assisting Lio Messi in the last meters of the field.

Estudiantes' winger Marcos Rojo and Internazionale's Javier Zanetti will be leading the advance from the wings, while Gabriel Milito and Nicolas Burdisso defend Mariano Andujar's goal.

An interesting friendly match for both teams to better understand their form prior to the Copa America and the Gold Cup.who'll be victorious?

Confident Norway size up Denmark

Group H leaders Norway will look to maintain their 100% record in UEFA EURO 2012 qualifying as they take on Denmark for the first time since 7 June 2003. The visitors will have other ideas, though, as they try to leapfrog their Nordic rivals.

Match background
• Norway have played 82 international games against Denmark over the years and have a record of W20 D11 L51 (W10 D9 L20 at home). The nations first met in Sweden in the 1912 Olympics, with Denmark winning their second round encounter 7-0 on 30 June, and going on to reach the final, losing 4-2 to England.

• The teams have met in only four official qualifiers since. Denmark won 1-0 at home and 5-1 away ahead of the 1986 FIFA World Cup, and – in their only encounters so far this century – Norway drew 2-2 at home and lost 1-0 in Copenhagen in UEFA EURO 2004 qualifying, with Jesper Grønkjær getting the winner in the latter fixture.

• Denmark coach Morten Olsen played in the two former qualifiers and oversaw the latter two from the bench.

• Norway boss Egil Olsen took on Denmark three times in friendly games in his first spell as Norway coach from 1990 to 1998: his side lost 1-0 in Aarhus in 1992, but recorded a 2-1 win in Oslo two years later, and more impressively, a 2-0 success in Copenhagen in 1998, Øyvind Leonhardsen and Tore André Flo the scorers.

• With second-placed Portugal not in action, victory would help Denmark go above Norway at the top of the section, though the sides would remain level on nine points.

Time already tight for Bulgaria and Switzerland

With both sides averaging only a point a game so far in Group G, Bulgaria and Switzerland will be eager to kick-start their UEFA EURO 2012 qualifying campaigns when they come together for a ninth time.

Match background
• Bulgaria's record in their eight matches with Switzerland, since the sides first met in a 2-2 friendly draw in Lucerne on 18 August 1976, is W2 D3 L3 (W1 D1 L1 at home).

• The teams have faced each other in two competitive games previously, having been pooled together in qualifying for the 1992 UEFA European Championship. Switzerland won both matches: 2-0 at home with goals from Marc Hottiger and Thomas Bickel, and 3-2 in Sofia where Kübilay Türkyilmaz hit a 90th-minute winner as the visitors battled back from 2-0 down.

• The sides have met in two friendlies since then. Nasko Sirakov and Emil Kostadinov struck to give Bulgaria a 2-0 friendly victory in Berne on 28 April 1992 before the sides drew 1-1 in Geneva on 11 April 2009.

England players prepare for their Euro Qualifying showdown against Wales.
England are currently three points behind group leaders Montenegro with a game in hand, and will go top of Euro 2012 Qualifying Group G with a victory in Cardiff. Wales currently sit at the foot of the table and will be looking for their first point.

Striker Robert Earnshaw has withdrawn from the Wales squad due to injury, while star winger Gareth Bale is ruled out with a hamstring problem. Bale is the only player to have scored for Wales in their three qualifying games so far.

Aaron Ramset will play his first game for Wales in over a year after returning from a horrific leg break. Ramsey will likely go head to head in central midfield against his Arsenal club-mate Jack Wilshere.

Steven Gerrard, Rio Ferdinand and Theo Walcott are all ruled out injured for England. Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Matt Jarvis has been called into his first England squad after a series of impressive Premier League performances.

The injury absence of Ferdinand has led to John Terry being reinstated as captain, something that has caused borderline hysteria in the English press. England striker Peter Crouch told BBC Sport this week that the players are unmoved by the tabloid talk.

“There’s a lot of talk of unrest but it’s not an issue. John Terry has always been fantastic on the pitch, leading Chelsea to Doubles, and he’ll be good for us again,” said Crouch.

Malta vs Greece Match Preview

Greece travel to face Malta on Saturday in a Group F encounter for EURO 2012 qualifying.
Giorgios Karagounis is set to start for Greece against Malta
Giorgios Karagounis is set to start for Greece against Malta
The qualifier at the Ta’Qali National Stadium is a crucial one from the Greeks’ perspective as a victory could see Fernando Santos’ side leapfrog Croatia for first place in the section. Currently, Greece are second place in Group F with 8 points from 4 matches, while Croatia lead the group with 10 points. Malta will be seeking their first points of EURO 2012 qualifying having lost all four matches they have played thus far.

Greece have virtually no injury worries heading into this match as Santos can select from a full squad of players. The only issues are in the form of long-term absences for Alexandros Tziolis and more recently first-choice goalkeeper Michalis Sifakis, both of whom were not fit enough to make the squad.

The mood within the Greek camp seems positive; however the squad members appear to be focused on the upcoming game knowing the potential banana-skin they face in a match they are expected to win handily. Santos reiterated the importance of this type of game earlier this week by saying “if a team wants to go to a tournament like EURO 2012 then it has to win matches like this.” Santos continued by saying that all that mattered was the three points and even a win by “a half-goal to nil” would be sufficient.

Santos will be keen to continue his fine start with the national team which has seen him go undefeated since his appointment last August. The Greeks recently defeated Canada 1-0 in a February friendly and are on track in their EURO 2012 qualifying campaign after a shaky start. Against Malta, Santos looks set to utilize his favored 4-2-3-1 formation and has seemingly settled on a starting eleven.

Alexandros Tzorvas appears to have beaten out Kostas Chalkias for a place in goal while Avraam Papadopoulos and Sokratis Papastathopoulos will renew their partnership in central defense supported by fullbacks Giorgos Tzavellas (left) and Vasilis Torosidis (right). Panathinaikos’ Kostas Katsouranis and Giorgos Karagounis will be the duo in the center of the park with Sotiris Ninis on the right and Georgios Samaras operating on the left flank. Dimitris Salpingidis will be the lone frontman, with Nikos Lymberopoulos tucking in behind him in a supporting role.

Malta meanwhile may have lost all four of their qualifying matches to date and be the big underdogs for this qualifier, however John Buttigieg’s team have reason to enter this match with confidence. For starters, the national side are coming off a superb result, a 0-0 draw against Switzerland in February.

Also something that will give Maltese supporters hope is the team’s decent historical record against Greece. In matches played in Malta, Greece have won only one of four meetings since the two teams’ first match in 1970. And even that latest victory, a EURO 2008 qualifier, came in difficult fashion with Greece needing a penalty-kick by Angelos Basinas to take home a 1-0 win.

There is even talk of an upset within the Malta camp as evidenced by captain Michael Mifsud’s comments earlier this week, “Greece have a glorious record in the European Championship, but I do believe that if we get out there and play with a big heart we can get a very good result.”

In a press conference this week, manager Buttigieg expressed his belief that his side were ready for the task facing them against a Greek team he described as one of the favorites to qualify for EURO 2012. The good news for Malta is that they too will be able to select from a full squad with Roderick Briffa overcoming recent injury to be declared fully fit.

Greece are the big favorites to claim the three points in this one, however they will know that they have tripped up against Malta before and will have to put in a good performance over the 90 minutes to win the match and keep pace with Group F leaders Croatia.

Israel and Latvia look for lift-off

Level on four points after as many Group F games, Israel and Latvia will look to relaunch their bids for a UEFA EURO 2012 place with a victory in their first competitive game of 2011.

Match background
• The teams have met on four previous occasions, with Israel's record in those matches reading W2 D1 L1 (W1 D0 L1 at home).

• The sides first met in a friendly game in Riga on 17 May 1998 which Israel won 5-1. A further friendly in Jerusalem on 24 February 1999 ended in a 2-0 win for the hosts.

• The tide has turned since then, with Latvia holding the upper hand in the countries' most recent meetings in 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifying. On 15 October 2008, they drew 1-1 in Riga, Vladimirs Kolesņičenko cancelling out Yossi Benayoun's opener.

• Latvia then pulled off something of a surprise in the return fixture, Kaspars Gorkšs scoring the only goal to earn them a 1-0 win in Tel Aviv on 5 September 2009. That strike ended Israel's 15-year unbeaten home run in World Cup qualifiers.

Albania seek revenge against Belarus

Albania will look to battle their way back into contention for the top spots in Group D as Belarus come to Tirana, fresh from beating their hosts 2-0 in the countries' final UEFA EURO 2012 qualifier of 2010.

Match background
• Vitali Rodionov and substitute Sergei Krivets scored the goals as Belarus were rewarded for a dominant performance on 12 October, the result ending Albania's unbeaten start to qualifying.

• It was the third game between the two sides, with Albania's record reading W0 D1 L2 (W0 D0 L1 at home).

• The teams first met in UEFA EURO 2008 qualifying, with their maiden encounter in Minsk on 2 September 2006 ending in a 2-2 draw after Besnik Hasi hit a late equaliser for the visitors.

• It was 2-2 again at half-time when they met in Tirana on 17 November that same year, but a goal from Vitali Kutuzov and Maksim Romaschenko's penalty secured a 4-2 win for Belarus.

• Belarus are the only undefeated side left in Group D, with two wins and two draws to date. Thanks in part to their 1-0 win in Paris in their opening qualifier, they lie second in the group, trailing leaders France by just one point.

• Albania are unbeaten in their two Group D home games, but Belarus have yet to concede on the road in the section.

Bosnia and Herzegovina will look to extend Romania's wait for a first UEFA EURO 2012 qualifying victory, and perhaps score their first goals against their opponents in Group D.

Match background
• This will be the teams' third meeting. They were paired in qualifying for UEFA EURO 2004, with Romania winning both games.

• The sides first met in Sarajevo on 7 September 2002, but the game was all over as a contest inside 27 minutes, as goals from Cristian Chivu, Dorinel Munteanu and Ioan Ganea secured a 3-0 win for Anghel Iordănescu's visitors.

• The return fixture in Craiova on 7 June 2003 was goalless at half-time, but Adrian Mutu scored within seconds of the restart, with Ganea making it 2-0 three minutes from time.

• Romania have made a disappointing start to UEFA EURO 2012 qualifying, taking just two points from their games. They are second from bottom in Group D, but just two points adrift of Bosnia and Herzegovina in fourth.

Unbeaten in their last three UEFA EURO 2012 qualifiers, Armenia will look to rise to the challenge of hosting Group B leaders Russia as they bid to break their duck against their visitors.

Germany tops their group with a five point advantage over second placed Austria. The Austrians have a game in hand. The story for the Kazakhs is quite different. They are bottom of the group with nothing to show for their efforts so far.

The Kazakhs were resilient in the first half against the Germans in Astana. They did not allow the Germans to settle in and created decent chances themselves. In the second half, when Miroslav Klose broke the deadlock, the floodgates opened. Substitute Mario Gomez scored a second while Lukas Podolski added a third.

Joachim Low’s side has a very interesting member in it this time. Andre Schuerrle has been included in the squad. He is a lanky forward who has caught the eyes of the supporters of Mainz this season. His talents have not gone unnoticed and Bayer Leverkusen has signed him for next season.

Low’s main problem isn’t really Schuerrle’s position. The forward position is currently Miroslav Klose’s. Klose has reached a special milestone this month. He earned his first cap in Kaiserslautern 10 years ago for Germany against Albania. Loew trusts his front man and will perhaps hand him a starting berth again. Low’s main problem is at left-back. Germany hasn’t had a consistent player at left-back since Philipp Lahm switched to the right.

Dennis Aogo, Holger Badstuber, Marcell Jansen and Jerome Boateng can all play there but aren’t consistent. The only consistent left-back is the young Marcel Schmelzer of Borussia Dortmund. However, only Loew knows who will start at left-back on Saturday. Loew has dropped Heiko Westermann from the squad. Per Mertesacker is always part of Germany’s central defence. However, who will be his partner?

Mats Hummels, one of the Bundesliga’s best defenders is in the squad. Holger Badstuber is also an option for central defence. However, the spot will most probably go to Arne Friedrich. Friedrich is ready for action with the national side. He missed the earlier qualifiers due to an injury which kept him out of action for a lengthy period of time.

As far as the injuries are concerned, Loew has a full squad to choose from with the exception of Rene Adler who pulled out after the squad was named. Germany did not call up a replacement. Loew has left out a regular in Marko Marin. Kevin Grosskreutz did not receive a call up as well.

As far as the Kazakhs are concerned, Andrei Karpovich, Aleksandr Kirov and Samat Smakov are out injured. They have a new coach at their helm. Miroslav Beranek took over as head coach following the departure of Bernd Storck. Kazakhstan is yet to score in the qualifiers and have lost all their games by at least a two goal margin. The Germans meanwhile have scored 13 goals and conceded just once in this campaign.

Here are the squads for the match:

Dutch Snub For Van Nistelrooy As Robben Returns To The Squad.

Ruud Van Nistelrooy has been snubbed by Netherlands coach Bert van Marwijk ahead of the home and away Euro 2012 Qualifiers against Hungary.
Van Nistelrooy still has a chance of making the cut if Huntelaar fails to be fit in time.
Van Nistelrooy still has a chance of making the cut if Huntelaar fails to be fit in time.

Veteran striker Ruud Van Nistelrooy has been dropped out of the Dutch squad by Bert van Marwijk for the upcoming matches against Hungary. However it seems like the former Real Madrid and Manchester United striker might get a second chance, depending on Klaas Jan Huntelaar's fitness

Schalke striker Klaas Jan Huntelaar is struggling to be fit for next Friday's clash against Hungary in Budapest and the return fixture four days later in Amsterdam. Despite Ruud Van Nistelrooy being overlooked in selecting the original squad, van Marwijk hinted that Van Nistelrooy could get the call if Huntelaar fails to be fit in time.

He said: ''I spoke with Ruud and he knows that he is in the picture for the Euro 2012 finals but that doesn't mean I will invite him for every match. But if the situation changes Ruud will be the first to know.''

On Huntelaar, Van Marwijk added: ''Klaas Jan will be in Noordwijk on Monday and then we will see if he is ready for both matches.''

One bright news for Holland is the return of Arjen Robben for the first time since last summer's World Cup. Robben has struggled with injuries this season but made a return into the Bayern Munish squad recently. His impressive displays has now led to Van Marwijk inserting him back into the Dutch fold.

''Robben is one of the best strikers in the world so it's obvious I am glad he is back,'' added Van Marwijk.

Holland squad: Vorm (FC Utrecht), Boschker (FC Twente), Ten Rouwelaar (NAC); Boulahrouz (Stuttgart), Emanuelson (AC Milan), Heitinga (Everton), Maduro (Valencia), Mathijsen (Hamburg), Pieters (PSV Eindhoven), Ron Vlaar (Feyenoord), Van der Wiel (Ajax); Afellay (Barcelona), Van Bommel (AC Milan), Janssen (FC Twente), Nigel de Jong (Manchester City), Strootman (FC Utrecht), Sneijder (Inter Milan), Van der Vaart (Tottenham); Elia (Hamburg), Huntelaar (Schalke), Kuyt (Liverpool), Van Persie (Arsenal), Robben (Bayern Munich).

Luxembourg Vs France: Patrice Evra Determined To Make Things Right Again

Patrice Evra has admitted that he will forever 'live with the scar' of his role in France's dismal showings in last summers FIFA World Cup although he is determine to make up for it.

The Manchester United left-back was the captain of France during last summer's World Cup where they were massively hit some internal crisis within the team. He was then subsequently suspended for five games following his role in France's overwhelming scene of indiscipline.

However, the French defender was finally called up by Laurent Blanc last week after a nine-month exodus from the French National Team. While Evra insisted that he will forever be ashamed of that incident in South Africa, he is determined to do his best for the Les Blues from now onwards.

''You can ask anyone, I was a good captain,'' said Evra.

''Besides, I have been very well received (back into) the group. Until the World Cup, I had always behaved well. I do not think any of you had heard that Evra was creating problems.

''I think I shall always live with that scar, but I want to go ahead and build a new story, much better than the previous. I want to be a solution, not a problem.''

'I do not want my supporters not want (to view) me as has been written. I want to be seen as someone who wants to invest for the future. As a single player, without status.''

Confirmation of Evra's recall to Blanc's squad was followed by a meeting between the two, which the United defender claimed was ''a beautiful and frank discussion''.

Slovenia covet Italy's top spot

Slovenia meet their neighbours from the west for a third time in UEFA European Championship qualifying looking to replace Italy at the top of UEFA EURO 2012 qualifying Group C.

Match background
• The sides met for the first time in a pair of EURO '96 qualifiers, with the first – in Maribor on 7 September 1994 – ending in a 1-1 draw. Fabrizio Ravanelli scored to give Italy a 1-0 win in the return fixture in Udine on 6 September 1995.

• Slovenia's record in five games against Italy reads W2 D1 L2 (W1 D1 L0 at home). All four meetings since their maiden encounter have been settled by a single goal – two 1-0 wins for each team.

• The countries last went head to head in qualifying for the 2006 FIFA World Cup. Boštjan Cesar, now an AC Chievo Verona player, scored a late winner as Slovenia won 1-0 in Celje, but Cristian Zaccardo evened up the scores with the only goal in Palermo in their last encounter to date on 8 October 2005.

• Italy top Group C with ten points from their opening four games, with Slovenia lying second on seven points. A win would enable Slovenia to leapfrog the Azzurri at the summit.

Serbia vs northern Ireland Match Background

Northern Ireland will look to maintain their unbeaten start in UEFA EURO 2012 qualifying Group C as they pay a first visit to Serbia since their hosts became an independent nation.

Match background
• Northern Ireland's record in ten games against Yugoslavia, Serbia and Montenegro, and the independent Serbia reads W1 D2 L7 (W0 D1 L3 away from home).

• The sides met for the only previous time in their current incarnations in a friendly game in Belfast on 14 November 2009, Danko Lazović's solitary effort earning a 1-0 win for Serbia.

• Northern Ireland's only victory against the old Yugoslavia came in their first meeting, a UEFA European Championship qualifier on 16 April 1975 in which Bryan Hamilton scored the only goal.

• Northern Ireland have visited Belgrade on two previous occasions, losing 1-0 in the return leg of the above tie in November 1975 and going down 4-1 to Yugoslavia in another UEFA European Championship qualifier on 27 March 1991, in which Darko Pančev scored a hat-trick.

• Serbia are without a win from their first two home qualifiers in Group C, while Northern Ireland have yet to lose home or away in the section.

• Serbia are staging this game behind closed doors as a punishment after serious disorder in the stands forced their 12 October qualifier against Italy in Genoa to be abandoned after just six minutes.
